Mild neurosis as performance enhancer

Mild neurosis can be beneficial! That’s the word from the evolutionary psychologists. By sharpening the senses and directing heightened response from the individual, survivability can be enhanced. For example, obsessively practicing with the bow and arrow can lead to better hunting results, which in turn leads to better personal nutrition (yum, mammoth steak) and to greater status within the tribe.

The trick is to avoid severe neurosis which reduces performance.
